But as we began to approach the next school year, their interest in leather carving evaporated. The tools were relegated the floor of the closet under soccer cleats and backpacks. Until “Closet clean-up day” when we were gifted the leather tools by both children -separately. The tools sat in Amy’s craft studio for weeks. Then one Saturday, we found ourselves longing for those early summer days of our children’s creativity and pride. We sat down with the remaining scraps of leather and began to trace, carve and stain a design, just as we had witnessed our children do.
